The next scene is introduced by the exterior house number - 8 - the luxurious residence on Rue de Chalon of the former owner of the ""legally confiscated"" jewels - the ultra-sophisticated Grand Duchess Swana (Ina Claire, former wife of actor John Gilbert, who reportedly had an affair with Garbo in the 20s), who now lives in exile in the French capital.The film was considered 95% restored, at a length of about148 minutes, and it was premiered simultaneously at the Berlin and Frankfurt Film Festivals on February 12, 2010The scenes that were heavily edited out of the original film (about 25 minutes worth) included the backstory on the conflict between the industrialist Fredersen and the mad scientist/inventor Rotwang over Rotwang""s dead lover Hel, another subplot involving he industrialist""s assistant named the Thin Man or Slim who spied on Freder, scenes taking place in the Yoshiwara "red-light" district of the metropolis, some of the symbolism in the dialogue, and much of the climactic chase scene.The results of his innocent, personal behavior have much larger consequences.[Note: The popular TV seriesI Love Lucyrevived the hilarious assembly line scene in the episode titled "Job Switching" (aka "The Candy Factory"), aired in the show""s second season in mid-September 1952.
