A gigantic portrait-painting of King Gustavus hangs behind her massive wooden table where she signs documents.From his perspective, Charles"" vision blurs as he reels and swoons dizzyingly in front of her.While holding onto her leg and fiddling with her shoe strap, he explains how he is a snake-enthusiast and an ale heir:It""s funny to be even here at your feet talking about beer? You see, I don""t like beer, bock beer, lager beer, or steam beer.He preaches about the reality of the situation:Isn""t it simple as one, two, three? One.The working conditions are bad.Two.They""re bad because the mob does the hiring.And three.The only way we can break the mob is to stop letting hem get away with murder.He attempts to determine who killed Joey Doyle, asking: "Who killed Joey Doyle?" The reaction to the Father""s question is otal silence - the men either look down, blankly stare away, or look embarrassed.The reception hall is decorated with symbols of the flag, black and white poster-sized photographs (wreathed by he stars and stripes) of the three local boys going to war, and a banner reading: SERVING GOD AND COUNTRY PROUDLY.
