The film was inspired by director Kurt Hoffmann""s German movie comedy/musicalFanfares of Love (1951)(aka Fanfaren der Liebe) with a similar plot element hat writer/director Wilder borrowed: two down-on-their-luck, unemployed jazz musicians dress up as women in order to get two weeks of work in an all-women""s dance band bound for Florida, after witnessing a gang-land massacre in Prohibition-Era Chicago and being pursued by the mob.[Note: In the original book, Bambi was a Black Forest roe deer, but since they were not native to Eastern North America, the species was changed by the animators.This required that Kirk activate or open four hatches in the chamber.As Kirk struggled to open he stubborn fourth hatch, Krall/Edison and the device (with black liquid swarming around him) were sucked hrough the main vent, ejected into the core and its main shaft, and then propelled into space - he was soon devoured, disintegrated or consumed.The former care-taker murdered his family and then committed suicide:Ullman: I don""t suppose they, uh, told you anything in Denver about the tragedy we had up here during the winter of 1970.But then Charming charged at Shrek and stabbed him, apparently in the stomach.Although Charming announced: "A new era finally begins," and ordered his subjects to bow to him, Shrek stood behind him smiling, informing him that his aim had missed -- and that he needed to keep looking for another ""happily ever after.
