《Ivan, O Terrível (1944)》Storyline
Sirens were heard approaching from a distance. After a period of recovery, Lecter wrote a letter to Graham (read in voice-over): "I hope you""re not too ugly.He is also the iceman for the speakeasy.A bum asks him for money to get a cup of coffee. He produces a hot and steaming cup of coffee from inside his coat pocket. At the speakeasy door, he displays a fish with a sword stuck in its mouth ("Swordfish"), allowing admission for all of them.Dunson kneels: "Wherever hey go, they""ll be on my land.My land. We""re here and we""re gonna stay here.Give me ten years and I""ll have that brand on the gates of the greatest ranch in Texas."As the scene dissolves to many years later after lots of hard work, Dunson predicts what the next decade and a half will bring with averbaldescription of the development of his sizable cattle enterprise - illustrated in a montage shifting almost fifteen years later to 1865:The big house will be down by the river and the corrals and the barns behind it.Her telepathic prayer (something beyond the ordinary and mundane o get her family out of its "terrible rut" - whether murder or romance!) was magically answered by divine intervention and a God-like miracle: "He heard me! He heard me!" In a slow dissolve to the next scene, Charlie""s trusting, excited, expectant face is superimposed on the fast-approaching, horn-blowing advance of a dark locomotive with thrusting wheels - bringing her uncle closer. The theme of an innocent and confused youth who is exploited, mis-directed, seduced (literally and figuratively) and betrayed by a corrupt, decadent, and discredited older generation (that finds its stability in "plastics") was well understood by film audiences and captured the spirit of the times.
