The events in this film followed what had occurred in the previous film.It was set thirty years after the conclusion of the originalStar Warstrilogy.Although well-received for the most part, it was considered bloated with too many extraneous story-lines, and should have been cut down by at least 30 minutes of its run time.Just before the atom bomb was dropped by B-29 bombers to end WWII, one of the camp""s commanders, Ichirō Yashida (Ken Yamamura as youth), frantically freed dozens of captured American soldiers from their cells." When Big Mac is surrounded by the men, he throws the work tabs over their heads, causing a mad, animalistic, free-for-all scramble.On the penal colony, Kirk and McCoy met a shape-shifting Chameloid named Martia (Iman) who proposed an escape plan (and gave Kirk a passionate kiss) - but the plan was designed to trick them and lead them into a trap that would cause their deaths (to "get them out of the way"); when her betrayal (she was offered a full pardon in exchange) was revealed, Martia transformed herself into the image of Kirk and struggled against him, but was killed by Klingon guards to silence her; shortly after, Kirk and McCoy were rescued when beamed aboard theEnterprise(Kirk had a homing device secretly attached to his uniform, disclosing his location beyond the planetoid""s shields) - just before being killed by the prison warden.
